DANCE

The Green Room specialises in Dance Tuition for toddlers, kids, teens, and adults. We have a beautiful boutique Performing Arts Studio which extends from our teaching studios. It is an amazing space for our Performing Arts departments to create and perform. We teach Classical Ballet, Contemporary, Jazz, Hip Hop and Funk, Tap and more. Students have the opportunity to perform at our annual show Limelight, and we also connect them with other local performance opportunities.

MUMS & BUBS

We have made a special place for Mums & Bubs at The Green Room. You might have thought it would never be possible for you to attend a dance class without a babysitter. We have made a way for you to get out and about with your little bubby, and most importantly, to socialise and get support from other mums.

IN THE STUDIO

MUMS & BUBS BALLET PLAY (3-18mths/12mths-2.5yrs)
A magical dance experience where mums (and dads) can share the ultimate bonding experience with their baby or toddler, through dance in a structured program conducted in a safe, professional dance school environment. Strap your baby on with a baby carrier or lie them on a yoga mat, and enjoy some lightand safe dancing with other mums with bubs. For our toddler class, parents will assist your toddler through the dance activities, which is always lots of fun. Please bring a small, soft play rug for your baby to lie on.

MUMS & BUBS STRETCH & SENSORY (3-12mths)
This class is designed to allow mums to enjoy a nice stretch class while they entertain their baby at the same time! Mums will be led through a series of stretches that incorporate their baby with sensory objects, toys, stimulations, and music. This class will improve flexibility and also release body tension for busy and tired mums. Please bring a small, soft play rug for your baby to lie on.

For their safety, all students MUST wear their ballet shoes. We have a beautiful uniform available, but we are not strict for this age group. Dress your toddler in something comfortable and affordable. We all know toddlers can change their minds about hobbies. Uniform becomes more serious when our toddlers graduate into our kids dance classes.

Complimentary Playgroup
At The Green Room, we care about creating community and connecting people. Most of our classes include a short 15 minute play group time after the class, allowing parents to chat and have a cup of tea or coffee, while the little ones play in the open space. Please check our Studio Schedule for class padding times.

IMPORTANT: If you or your child is sick, please do not attend our classes as we want to minimise the potential for viruses spreading amongst babies, parents, and teachers. Thank you for your understanding. You will be entitled to a class swap within the current term.

BALLET & CONTEMPORARY CLASSES
Classical ballet is characterised by a standard vocabulary of steps, poses, and graceful movements including pointed feet, rising, jumping, stretching and spinning. It is strengthening, disciplined and stylised. The class starts with exercises at the barre followed by work in the centre of the floor.

Contemporary is a blend of ballet and modern dance. It builds a strong centre and combines precision leg work with fluidity of the torso. Contemporary dance encourages self expression, natural movement and personal interpretation.

In Term 3, students will begin their work on a ballet and contemporary routine to perform at the end of year concert. Classes range from absolute beginner to intermediate, and we offer advanced tuition for students who are ready. For their safety, all students MUST wear their ballet slippers and compulsory green room uniform to ALL classes. Students will not be allowed to dance if they are wearing incorrect uniform.

JAZZ, HIP HOP & FUNK CLASSES
With a technique-based focus, students will work on turns, kicks, jumps and leaps, each year adding to their large dance vocabulary. JFH is a style performed by commercial dancers – a stylised combination of Jazz, Funk and Hip Hop! JFH routines are choreographed to the latest popular dance hit songs. The class begins with a strength and technique warm-up followed by a JFH dance routine.  In Term 3, students will begin their work on a JFH routine to perform at the end of year concert. Our primary focus is creating strong jazz, hip hop and funk dance foundations, in a fun and safe environment. TAP CLASSES
Tap Dance is a timeless art that combines dance and percussion. This class will explore the two traditions of rhythm tap (hoofing) and Broadway tap. Class begins with warm up exercises in the center that increase control, proper tap technique, coordination, and rhythm, followed by across the floor exercises that teach dynamics, shading, phrasing, and musicality, concluding with extended rhythmic phrases and improvisation exercises. The goal is to develop tap dancers that are equally strong musicians, dancers, and performers.  In Term 3, students will begin their work on a JFH routine to perform at the end of year concert. We all have our little person still beneath our exterior, and many of us either miss dancing or wish that we'd done it at some stage. It's not too late!

The Green Room has great dance classes available for adults that are non-intimidating and very welcoming. We have a range of classes and styles to suit your interests, but one of our most popular classes is TGIF Dance, because we all love Friday nights.
